How do you change battery on 2000 - 2005 BMW or Mini Cooper remote key?

Battery Replacement on a 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 and 2005 BMW or Mini Cooper Remote Key?

Have a 2000 to 2005 BMW remote key and the remote stopped working?    Everybody asks, Can I just change the battery in it without buying a whole new key? The answer is no. The battery inside is a special rechargeable battery.  Every time you put the BMW key in the ignition, and drive the car the battery in the key fob gets recharged.

When the remote stops working, it usually means the rechargeable battery has gone bad and the remote must be replaced.  The battery cannot be replaced because they are special rechargeable batteries that are soldered on the circuit board of the remote.  The BMW remote keys are glued together so they cannot be opened easy, we recommend that you do not try to open them as they will most likely break when you open them and the car may not start.   The BMW dealers usually charge anywhere from $175 to $300 for 2000 to 2005 BMW remote keys (known in the industry as BMW EWS Keys).
